Shiatsu is a Japanese word for finger pressure: "Shi" meaning finger and "Atsu" meaning pressure.
A treatment involves the application of pressure on the meridians (energy channels), which encourage our energy to circulate through our body. Shiatsu assists in correcting the imbalances of the body as well as maintaining and promoting health.
The Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) concept of the Five Element Theory helps us to understand how changes within our body and our environment affect our health. The five elements are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. Using this time-tested, diagnostic model to analyze how the various parts of our body and mind interact to affect our health helps us to make the modifications needed to bring balance back into our lives.
